Iran is one of the world’s most mountainous countries, whose wild landscape is dominated by rugged mountain ranges separating various basins from one another. The main ranges are the Zagros and Alborz Mountains.
Alborz Mountains are in northern Iran, and Zagros Mountains are in west and center of Iran. There are over 700 hundred summits of 3000 and 4000-meter height in these two mountain ranges.
Iran’s highest point, Mount Damavand at 5,671 m (18,605 ft.), which is also the highest mountain in the Middle East and on the Eurasian landmass west of the Hindu Kush is located in the Central Alborz.
